- Description
- Microgrids are widely used for renewable energy integration. They rely on high performance power converters. This paper discusses three-phase interleaved DC/DC converters based on the standard inverter topology. Mathematical analysis and simulation results demonstrate the dramatic effect of interleaving on the input and output current ripple for both buck and boost converters. These converters are then utilized in a decentralized DC microgrid that uses current measurements instead of droop and telecommunication. The paper shows how the current sharing functionality can be embedded in the design of the measurement filters. As a result, converters are decoupled from each other but provide coordinated response to the load changes. The paper then proposes using such a DC microgrid as an onboard power system for electric transport. A case study included in the paper details the DC microgrid application to an electrical boat and illustrates its performance in different modes of operation. The paper findings are supported by simulations.
